How much does a made-to-measure residential fire door cost?
A made-to-measure FD30 door, fitted, usually costs £900–£1,800, before VAT. Period panels or glazing add around £250–£700. The final price depends on size, style, glass and finish. You get a fixed price after we measure, covering making, fitting and the paperwork. Ordering several matching doors can lower the price per door.
When do I need a bespoke fire door?
When your opening is not a standard size, or when you need a door that matches a period style. Cutting down a standard door can break its rating, so a made-to-measure door is the safer choice. We measure every opening first, so you know which type of door you need.
Can a fire door look like a Victorian door?
Yes. Bespoke fire doors can have raised panels, mouldings and fire-rated glass in period patterns. The seals and label are hidden, so the door looks traditional. Period handles and hinges can be fitted too, as long as they are fire rated. Many visitors would never guess it is a fire door.
Can I upgrade my original period door instead?
Sometimes, but it is not simple. Upgrading an old door needs proper test evidence, and many old doors are too thin. In most cases, a new bespoke door made to look the same is safer and easier to prove. We can advise on your door.
Can I have glass in a bespoke fire door?
Yes, as long as it is fire-rated glass fitted with the right beads and seals. We can match period glass shapes, such as arched or divided panels. The glass panels must stay within the sizes allowed by the test evidence. We check this when we agree the design, so there are no surprises.
How long does a bespoke residential door take?
Usually several weeks from measure to fitting, depending on the design. Fitting itself takes about a day. We give you a timeline when you order. You are never left without a door, as the old one stays until the new one is ready. On fitting day, the swap is done in a few hours.
Is a bespoke door certified?
Yes. Each door is made by a certified maker, labelled and backed by test evidence. You get the label details and paperwork when it is fitted. The label is placed discreetly on the edge, so it does not spoil the look. The paperwork is worth keeping with your property records.
Do I need permission for a new door in a listed building?
Usually, yes. Listed buildings often need listed building consent for door changes. We can supply drawings to help with your application. Your freeholder may also need to approve the design if you live in a flat. Getting consent first avoids having to change the door again later, which can be costly.
Can a bespoke flat door be secure?
Yes. Bespoke doors can be fitted with fire-rated locks, spyholes and letter plates. Ask us if security is a priority, and we will include it in the design. All hardware must be fire rated and suit the door’s test evidence.
Do you fit the doors yourselves?
Yes. Our own team measures and fits every bespoke door. That way, the same people are responsible from start to finish. Fitting by our own team also keeps the door’s certification valid, because it is installed as tested. If anything needs adjusting later, you only need to call us.
