How much does fire door certification cost?
For new doors we fit, certificates are included. Tracing and checking an existing door usually costs £35–£75 per door, before VAT. A full building door file is around £250–£600. Larger buildings cost less per door, as we can trace and check many doors in one visit. If a door cannot be proved, we tell you before you pay for anything more.
How do I know if my fire door is certified?
Look for a label on the top or hinge edge, a coloured plug in the edge, or an etched mark on the glass. Paperwork from the maker or installer also counts. If you cannot find any of these, the door may still be a fire door, but you cannot prove it. A fire door inspection can find marks that are easy to miss.
Do fire doors need a certificate?
You need proof that each fire door is what it claims to be. A certificate, label or maker’s paperwork is the clearest way to show it. The law does not use the word certificate, but the Responsible Person must be able to show the doors are fit for use. Without proof, inspectors and insurers may treat a door as unrated.
Can an existing fire door be certified?
Only if its maker and rating can be traced and it is in good condition. If there is no proof at all, it cannot be certified and usually needs replacing. We look for labels, plugs, glass marks and old paperwork. Where we can trace the door, we check it still matches its evidence and record it with photos.
Where is the label on a fire door?
Most labels are on the top edge or the hinge edge of the door. Some makers use a coloured plug set into the edge instead. Labels are often hidden under paint or behind the closer arm, so they are easy to miss. Never remove or paint over a label, as it is often the only proof the door has.
What is a fire door certificate?
A written record of the door, its rating, its maker and how it was fitted. It sits alongside the maker’s label on the door itself. Together, the label and the certificate prove the door is genuine and was fitted to its test evidence. A building with a certificate for every fire door is much easier to sign off.
What happens if my fire door has no label?
We look for other proof, such as a plug, glass marks or paperwork. If none is found, the door usually needs a fire door replacement. A door with no proof of rating cannot be signed off, even if it looks solid. Replacing it with a certified doorset is usually quicker and cheaper than trying to prove an unknown door.
Do new fire doors come with a certificate?
Every door we fit comes with a certificate, photos and the maker’s label. The certificate lists the door’s number, location, rating and maker, plus the checks we made after fitting. Keep it with your fire safety records, as inspectors, insurers and buyers often ask to see it.
