How much does it cost to fit an internal door in London?
Hanging a door you have bought into an existing frame usually costs £85–£150 before VAT. If we supply the door as well, expect around £220–£450. A pair of double doors is around £220–£400. The price includes hinges, latch, handles and taking the old door away.
How long does it take to hang an internal door?
One door takes about two to three hours, so a fitter can usually hang two to four doors in a day. Double doors take longer, because both leaves need setting so they meet in the middle. If a frame needs replacing, allow half a day more for that opening.
Can you fit a new door into my old frame?
Yes, in most cases. If the frame is solid and close to square, we trim the new door to fit it. Very old or damaged frames may need a new lining, which gives a cleaner finish. We check every frame when we measure, so you know before the work starts.
Do you supply the doors, or do I buy them?
Either works. Many people buy their own doors, and we hang them. We can also supply doors, handles and hinges to match your style. If you buy them yourself, check the size first and let us know the brand. Some doors cannot be trimmed much.
How much can you trim off an internal door?
Most doors can lose a few millimetres from each side and a little more from the bottom. Hollow and glazed doors have less to spare than solid doors. If an opening is very large or very small, a standard door may not work, and a new lining or a made-to-size door is the better choice.
Do you fit double doors and French doors?
Yes. Our double door fitting covers lounge and dining room pairs, internal French doors and glazed room dividers. We hang both leaves so they meet evenly in the middle and fit the bolts that hold one leaf shut. Pairs can go into an existing opening or a new, wider lining.
Should I fit my doors before or after new flooring?
After, if you can. New carpet, wood or tiles raise the floor, and a door hung too early may rub. If the doors must go in first, tell us the type of flooring. We will leave enough gap underneath for it.
Is an internal door the same as a fire door?
No. An ordinary internal door is not tested to hold back fire. Flat entrance doors, HMO doors and doors on escape routes often must be fire doors by law. If you are not sure, our fire door survey tells you which doors need to be fire rated.
