How much does it cost to fit a fire door in London?
A supplied and fitted FD30 internal doorset usually costs £550–£950 before VAT. FD60 doorsets are around £800–£1,300, and flat entrance doorsets £1,100–£1,900. Glass, finish and hardware change the price. Prices include fitting, seals and hinges, and removal of the old door. London rates are usually a little higher than the UK average because of labour and access costs.
Do fire doors have to be fitted by a professional?
The law does not say who must fit them, but the door must perform as tested. In practice that means a competent fitter who follows the test evidence and BS 8214. Poor fitting is one of the main reasons fire doors fail.
How long does it take to fit a fire door?
Most single doorsets take around a day, including removing the old door. Larger jobs are planned floor by floor so the building stays in use. Odd-sized openings may need made-to-measure fire doors, which take longer to make. Fitting time depends on the wall and frame. Openings that need building work or making good can take longer, and we tell you this when we measure.
Can you fit a fire door into an existing frame?
Only if the frame is part of the same tested set and in good condition. In most cases a complete doorset, with a new frame, is the safer choice. Old frames are often too damaged, the wrong depth or not part of the door’s test evidence. Fitting a new door into them can mean the door will not perform as tested.
What is the difference between FD30 and FD60?
FD30 doors resist fire for 30 minutes and FD60 doors for 60 minutes in a standard test. An "S", as in FD30S, means the door also has smoke seals. Your fire risk assessment says which you need. Read more in FD30 vs FD30S vs FD60 fire doors explained.
What is a fire doorset?
A fire doorset is a door, frame, seals and hardware supplied together as one tested unit. It is easier to prove than a door and frame bought separately. Doorsets come from the factory ready to fit, often with the hinges and seals already in place. That makes the fitting quicker and the paperwork simpler.
Do fire doors need three hinges?
Most fire doors need three fire-rated hinges, as set out in their test evidence. Using only two, or ordinary hinges, can stop the door performing in a fire. Each hinge should be CE or UKCA marked to EN 1935, with every screw in place. Missing screws are one of the most common faults found in inspections.
Will I get a certificate when the doors are fitted?
You get a fitting record, photos and the maker’s label on each door. Our fire door certification service explains the paperwork in more detail. The record shows the door’s rating, location and the checks we made after fitting. Keep it with your fire safety records, as inspectors and insurers often ask for it.
